National Winners of 2014 Aviation Art Contest Announced

Washington, D.C., March 13, 2014 – The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and the National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO) announced the national winners of the 2014 U.S. Aviation Art Contest. The original artwork with this year’s theme of “Flying to Save Lives” will be forwarded to Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) for inclusion in the 2014 International Aviation Art Contest in Lausanne, Switzerland in April.

“The National Aeronautic Association is so grateful to the thousands of students across the United States who contributed their art to this distinguished panel for review,” said Jonathan Gaffney, President and CEO of NAA.  “We congratulate all the winners on this great accomplishment.”

The contest sanctioned by FAI and NAA and managed by NASAO, is designed to motivate and encourage young people of FAI member nations to become familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering, and science.

“NASAO is pleased to, once again, manage this contest,” said Kim Stevens, Interim President and CEO of NASAO. “Our members see this as an excellent opportunity to promote aviation and aerospace education in the states.”

To be eligible for the national judging, students must participate in state-wide art contests and place first, second or third in one of three age groupings. NASAO received artwork this year from 29 states with some 4,800 students submitting their work in those contests.
