Amy Corbett, FAA New England Regional Administrator and her team hosted an in-person meeting of state aviation officials at their Burlington, MA office on Wednesday. Participating from the states were, Kelly Fredericks (Rhode Island – NASAO’s Regional Director), Chris Willenborg (Massachusetts), Patrick Herlihy (New Hampshire), Guy Roulle (Vermont), Kevin Dillon(Connecticut) and Scott Rollins (Maine). NASAO’s Kim Stevens, participating by phone, gave an Association update. FAA staff provided presentations and updates on runway safety, UAS legal issues and 20:1 approaches. Mary Walsh(FAA Manager, Airports, New England), gave a very informative regional overview, including some insight from her recent assignment in Washington D.C. Representatives from each state then had the opportunity to share highlights and challenges that they are facing in their respective states.

NASAO is one of the most senior aviation organizations in the United States, predating even the Federal Aviation Administration’s predecessor, the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The states first established NASAO to ensure uniformity of safety measures, to standardize airport regulations and develop a truly national air transportation system responsive to local, state, and regional needs. More
NASAO holds two formal conferences each year – our Annual Convention and Trade Show, typically held in September and a Washington Legislative Conference held in the nation’s Capital during the February/March timeframe. NASAO also has a presence at EAA’s AirVenture, held each year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in late July.
