AAAE’s annual General Aviation Issues and Security Conference was held this week in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and drew more than fifty participants from around the country. Attendees heard from a number of speakers on topics ranging from UAS to 20:1 Approaches. FAA participants included Elliott Black, Director, Office of Airport Planning and Programming, Steve Szukala,

Instrument flight Procedures Group and John Dermody, Manager of the Airport Engineering Division. Participating in an informativediscussion on UAS were Mario Mairena, AUVSI, Dane Jaques, McKenna Long & Aldridge and Patrick Dame, Executive Director of the Grand Forks International Airport. NASAO’s Kim Stevens participated on a panel that explored the state of the general aviation community, along with Bill Dunn, AOPA, Richard Doubrava, NBAA, John McGraw, NATA, Stephanie Saracco, Allegheny County Airport Authority and Justin Towles, AAAE.

NASAO is one of the most senior aviation organizations in the United States, predating even the Federal Aviation Administration’s predecessor, the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The states first established NASAO to ensure uniformity of safety measures, to standardize airport regulations and develop a truly national air transportation system responsive to local, state, and regional needs. More
NASAO holds two formal conferences each year – our Annual Convention and Trade Show, typically held in September and a Washington Legislative Conference held in the nation’s Capital during the February/March timeframe. NASAO also has a presence at EAA’s AirVenture, held each year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in late July.
