Douglas R. Murphy, FAA Regional Administrator for Southern Region announced he is retiring next month. Murphy advised the FAA’s Southern Region Management Team during a conference call Wednesday evening, that he will retire from the FAA at the end of September after 44-plus years of service spanning 5 Regions, FAA Headquarters and 3 tours at the FAA Academy. This includes 21 years as a Senior Executive and the last 11 years as the Regional Administrator in Northwest Mountain and Southern Regions. “It has been both an honor and pleasure to work with many FAA and aviation professionals during my career,” said Murphy, “and I will always value the lasting personal and professional friendships that resulted.  Murphy also shared the news with Southern Region state directors during their quarterly telecon this week and said that he looks forward to attending the NASAO Annual Convention and Trade Show in Providence.

NASAO holds two formal conferences each year – our Annual Convention and Trade Show, typically held in September and a Washington Legislative Conference held in the nation’s Capital during the February/March timeframe. NASAO also has a presence at EAA’s AirVenture, held each year in Oshkosh, Wisconsin in late July.
