Our Vision: To be the nationally recognized voice for the public interest, states and territories on aviation and the national aviation system.

Highlights of a webinar held this week by ACC included some of the challenges faced by communities securing and retaining air service. One in particular – changes to FAA Regulations, Part 117, requiring pilots to have substantially more training hours – could result in the continued risk of many small and medium sized communities losing air service. Check out the Regional Airline Association’s coalition website, Take Flight Tomorrow, which raises awareness on the issue and works towards effective and safe changes.
Take Flight Tomorrow also released a document that shows86 communities have lost over 10% of their daily departures due to airlines canceling flights because of the growing pilot shortage. The list also shares some of the major airports that have been affected and have seen over a 10 percent loss in scheduled airline departures. Cities such as Cleveland, Memphis, Louisville, and Providence are included in that list.
