FAA SELECTS HINES AS NEW MANAGER OF AIRPORT PLANNING AND ENVIRONMENTAL

The FAA notified NASAO this week of the selection of Michael Hines as the new Manager of the Airport Planning and Environmental Division. Hines is currently the Manager of Planning for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA).  He has been an employee of MWAA for more than seven years. For two years during his tenure, he also served as the Department’s Lead Environmental Planner responsible for all National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements for both Washington Dulles International (IAD) and Ronald Reagan Washington National (DCA) Airports.

Prior to joining MWAA, Hines spent more than 20 years as an aviation consultant where he prepared airport master plans and conducted a variety of comprehensive planning studies and technical analysis for a diverse aviation customer base consisting primarily of large and medium size commercial service airports.

Hines brings extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of airport planning including airside, landside and terminal area; intermodal coordination; airspace and critical surfaces; and the complex interactions between planning and the environmental processes.

He will officially start as APP-400 on July 27, 2015.

The states first established NASAO to ensure uniformity of safety measures, to standardize airport regulations and develop a truly national air transportation system responsive to local, state, and regional needs.
