NASAO, GA Groups Reach out to Congress on ATC Reform

NASAO joined fourteen general aviation industry groups in a letter imploring leaders of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to provide sufficient time for debate and careful consideration of the impending FAA reauthorization bill, and specifically, the plan to privatize the air traffic control system. The Committee is reportedly considering February 11 for a mark-up of the legislation, despite the fact that neither a draft bill nor any reform details have been released. NASAO has expressed concerns in Congress about the possible imposition of new user fees, as well as potential access restrictions for GA under a new, privatized system as seen with comparable systems in foreign countries. Just as importantly, NASAO has spoken out strongly against any plan that may draw down the Airport and Airway Trust Fund (AATF) and jeopardize the future health of the Airport Improvement Program (AIP). We will provide timely updates in the days ahead, as we continue to advocate for NASAO priorities in the FAA reauthorization.

NASAO is one of the most senior aviation organizations in the United States, predating even the Federal Aviation Administration’s predecessor, the Civil Aeronautics Authority. The states first established NASAO to ensure uniformity of safety measures, to standardize airport regulations and develop a truly national air transportation system responsive to local, state, and regional needs.
