Florida and Missouri Governors Declare April Aviation Appreciation Month

The Alliance for Aviation Across America recently applauded Governors Rick Scott (FL) and Eric Greitens (MO), for declaring April as Aviation Appreciation Month.

In Florida, general aviation airports contribute more than $7.7 billion to the state’s economy annually. In Missouri, general aviation generates $857 million in economic activity on an annual basis.

Mark Kimberling, President and CEO of the National Association of State Aviation Officials, thanked both Governors for their support of aviation in their states. “Florida’s airports represent critical infrastructure that helps businesses and communities to connect to other regions and transport personnel, food, parts, and medical supplies,” said Kimberling. In Missouri, Kimberling said the 123 public-use general aviation airports are an important facet of the state’s transportation infrastructure.

Kimberling also recognized and thanked Aaron Smith, State Aviation Manager for the Florida Department of Transportation and Amy Ludwig, Administrator of Aviation for the Missouri DOT, for the work they and their offices undertake in support of aviation across their respective states.

According to the Florida proclamation, more than 8.5 percent of Florida’s Gross State Product results from businesses dependent upon aviation.
