Kentucky Airport Achieving More Milestones

Steve Parker, Commissioner, Kentucky Department of Aviation, shared the news that great things are happening at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky Airport, which is located in Kentucky. The airport (CVG), has achieved more milestones in its continuing efforts to grow air service and provide more flight options for travelers.

In May, CVG officially became the fastest-growing US airport when it comes to how many seats are available for passengers on departing flights, as reported by OAG, a leading provider of data for the aviation industry. “I really want to help them spread the word about their remarkable progress,” wrote Parker in an email to NASAO.

CVG grew by 18 percent between May 2017 and April 2018, making it the top-growing airport with 5.1 million seats, compared to 4.3 million the prior 12 months.

The airport is serving more local passengers than ever before due to strong growth by all air carriers adding new domestic and international destinations and airfares being at an all-time low. Passengers are paying on average $215 less per ticket than four years ago.

In addition to passenger growth, CVG is breaking records in cargo tonnage handled thanks to DHL and Amazon Air establishing their cargo hubs at the airport. Cargo volume is at an all-time high with an increase of 41 percent year to date.

And, CVG continues to diversify revenues through land development strategies. More than 250 acres have been developed within the last two years, with more to come on line later this year. The unprecedented growth CVG is experiencing is worth celebrating as it continues to positively impact our local economy.
